Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question not covered on this page please feel free to contact me. I’ll do my best to answer, please note that I do have a full time job in addition to my artwork, so it may take me a few days to respond.
What type of paints do you use?
My work is done with a variety of acrylic paints. I have mostly been using a mix of Liquitex Basics and Artist’s Loft acrylic paints. I also use Folk Art Color Shift acrylic paints.
What pouring medium do you use?
I have been using Floetrol from Flood with great success. I mix it at a 3 to 1 or 4 to 1 ratio for artists paints and 1 to 1 for craft paints, then add a small amount of distilled water to adjust the viscosity as needed.
Do you use silicone?
Some of my pieces use silicone. Any that do are thoroughly cleaned before sealing to ensure as much of the silicone as possible is removed.
What is that white liquid you put on the canvas when you do the feathers?
This is probably the most asked question on my social media! Most of my work starts with a coat of either white or black paint. This is a mix of 20% white or black acrylic paint (nothing fancy, but basic “tube” artist paint), a small amount of opalescent medium from Artist’s Loft, 80% Floetrol, then just a small amount of distilled water added until it’s a warm honey consistency. This mix never has silicone in it.
What resin do you use?
I use 2 brands of resin, I’ve been very happy with both of them.
